Origin

Shambhala is a Sanskrit word that translates to “place of peace” or “place of tranquility,” often interpreted as a “place of silence.” It refers to a mythical kingdom believed to be hidden in the Himalayas, a land of harmony, health, and well-being. The Sanskrit name can also be understood as “the spring of divine bliss” or, more precisely, as the source that allows us to access this bliss.

Shambhala is not a physical location in the conventional sense but rather a mythical realm, deeply rooted in the traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.

According to prophecy, Shambhala will be the birthplace of Kalki, the next incarnation of Vishnu, who will usher in a new age, the Satya Yuga. It is also said to be the prophesied kingdom of Maitreya, the future Buddha. In Buddhist teachings, this city is described as being hidden deep beneath the Himalayas, a place of pure enlightenment, wisdom, and peace—free from all evil.

Living in Shambhala's Land

Only those who are pure of heart or have attained— or are on the path to attaining—enlightenment are believed to inhabit the land of Shambhala. The people of Shambhala embody unwavering confidence and deep respect for inherent goodness, wisdom, and dignity.

In Shambhala, the people are free from the burdens of money and trade, for food, clothing, and shelter are abundant and generously provided. Those who enter Shambhala’s realm live in peace and abundance. They do not seek validation from the outside world or rush their decisions in life. Instead, they follow their inner guidance and intuition to lead them.

The Shambhala Prophecy tells of a time when all life on Earth will be in danger, and a messianic king will arise to guide the world into peace and light.
